STEM Mentoring consists of interactive, multimedia modules for mentors and mentees to explore together.
Curriculum Overview
Explorations in STEM: Volumes 1, 2, and 3
In each Explorations in STEM mini-module, mentors and mentees will develop teamwork skills, build trust with one another, and explore introductory STEM topics. In Volume 1, mentors and mentees will work together to build boats, program human robots, construct towers, and play math games. In Volume 2, they will launch toy cars, navigate treasure maps, build towering structures, and solve math puzzles. In Volume 3, they will make magnet mazes, create binary key chains, build index card towers, and play games with dice.
Crazy 8s
Mentors and mentees will explore the math behind some fun topics — including spies, farm animals, and treasure maps!
Energy Engineers
Mentors and mentees will learn about renewable energy — including energy from the sun, wind, and water. They will explore what they can do to save energy, protect the environment, and take care of our planet.
Endangered Species Adventure
Mentors and mentees will learn about threatened and endangered animals locally and around the world. Through fun, hands-on activities, they will explore the animals’ habitats, the threats they face, and how to help protect them.
Quickball Math
Mentors and mentees will practice fundamental math skills such as tallying, finding patterns, and analyzing data as they play games on the Quickball field.
World of Water
Mentors and mentees will do fun activities to explore water and discover how they are connected to their local watershed. They will also identify daily choices they can make to conserve water and protect the environment.
